Hyderabad: Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) at Shamsabad is going to get better facilities now. It will be connected to Metro Rail. Airport City will also be constructed here.
CM of Telangana State, Mr. KCR proposed that RGIA should be modernized to meet international requirements. In order to manage the increasing crowd, a second runway is essential. The CM also sanctioned for the construction of Airport City covering an area of 600 acres. It will also have star hotels, multispecialty hospitals and major malls.
The review meeting was attended by Chief Advisor of TS Govt. Mr. Rajiv Sharma, Chief Secretary, Mr. SP Singh, GMR Group Chief, Mr. G. Mallikarjun Rao and the officials of Airport Authority.
CM told that due to congenial weather conditions of Hyderabad City, many MNCs and corporate companies are establishing their offices in the city. He stressed the need for the construction of an international level conference hall with a capacity of 12000 persons.
CM also gave his consent to lay down the foundation stone for the construction work of the airport runway. He also agreed to participate in its 10 year anniversary celebrations. He instructed the officials to ensure adequate supply of drinking water and to arrange drainage facilities.
On this occasion, the chief of GMR, Mr. Mallikarjun Rao presented a cheque of Rs. 12.28 crore to CM towards the share of Govt.
Very soon, a joint meeting of officials of GMR, L&T and HMR will be convened.
