Hyderabad City will get huge face lift: CM

Chief Minister N Kiran Kumar Reddy on Sunday directed the officials to take up developmental works at the cost of Rs 577.35 crores for creating world class infrastructure in the city for the Biodiversity Convention.

Several developmental works are being planned by GHMC for upgrading the civic amenities for the Biodiversity International Convention to be held in Hyderabad from 1st to 19th October, 2012. They include strengthening and recarpeting of BT roads; remodeling of storm water drainage; improvement of sidewalks; modern lighting; lane marking; traffic islands, signages, street furniture; traffic signals; improvement of sanitation; development of greenery on traffic islands and central media and other works to be taken up by National Highways and works by Roads & Buildings Department.

According to a Chief Minister’s Office release, tenders have been finalized for H-TRIMS Project for Modernization of the Traffic Signals (220) for the entire GHMC area and the cost of the Project is Rs.65 Crores. Since, BEL has already been identified as the bidder, funds may be provided by the Government so as to complete the works in Phase-I before the COP – 11 on all the identified 25 Roads. Apart from improving the roads connectivity, side walks have to be improved in a big way which requires coordinated action as several obstacles are there on foot paths for seamless movement of the pedestrians. GHMC would like to take up the improvement works on all the footpaths in a big way in all the identified roads in coordination with CPDCL, Cable Companies, HMWS&SB etc.

The Chief Minister asked all departments to draw an Action Plan duly syncronizing all the works while doing the execution, as only few months are left in the run up to the event. Each Department has to make a Budgetary Allocation for taking up infrastructural improvements and the beautification works to face lift the City. Constitution of a Coordination Committee to regularly monitor the progress of works of all the Stake Holders is essential. Letter has already been written to the Government suggesting the Committee to be headed by Principal Secretary to Government, MA &UD.

Kiran Kumar Reddy said that the 11th International Conference of Parties was a prestigious event for both the India and the State of Andhra Pradesh. (INN)
