Eid means festivity while Fitr means conclusion of fast. The words Eid-ul-Fitr symbolize celebration of the conclusion of the month of fasting.

Eid-ul-Fitr is also known as ‘Sheer Khorma Eid’ as vermicelli is specially cooked and eaten to break the fast.

It is forbidden to fast on Eid. That is why it is recommended to have a small breakfast (a sign of not fasting) of a sweet dish, preferably the date fruit, before attending the special prayer. Eidis (gifts) are given to children and relatives. Stalls of clothes and toys are erected outside mosques.

Muslims wake up early in the morning and offer pre-sunrise prayers. People adorn new clothes. After prayers, we meet friends and relatives and embrace each other saying Eid Mubarak.
