Hyderabad: Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) and National Research Centre on Meat (NRCM) are making an attempt to produce mutton and chicken without animal rearing.
According to the report published in Times of India, scientists will produce mutton and chicken from stem cell with the help of Department of Biotechnology’s initial funding of Rs. 4.5 crore.
As per the scientist, it will look, taste and smell the same as animal meat.
The project will not only avoid rearing and slaughtering of animal but also ensures food security.
It may be mentioned that in the month of August 2018, Union Minister, Ms. Maneka Gandhi had asked CCMB to produce cell-based meat in large scale.
