Hyderabad: Is cat meat becoming favourite dish?

Hyderabad: Is cat meat becoming a favourite dish in some communities of Hyderabad? This question cropped up after police caught four persons on Saturday night.

According to the report published in Telangana Today, Animal Rights Activists along with Chikkadpally Police held four persons who had caught cats. They were caught on VST main road in Zamistanpur area.
It is also reported that they used long wooden sticks which has a wire loop to catch cats.
P. Teja, Animal Rights activist who resides in nearby area had alerted the police after seeing people who are known for catching cats.

Later, a complaint was also lodged in Chikkadpally Police Station.

It may be mentioned that it is not an isolated case. Many such incidents are taking place in the city.
Commenting on the issue, Teja said that all these cats are caught for consuming.

It may be noted that as per the Director (Enforcement) of Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), slaughtering cat is illegal. However, cat meat is still consumed by a few communities in Hyderabad. Although there is no scientific proof, it is used for the treatment of a few diseases like asthma, impotency etc.
