HYDERABAD: Even though the government intends to make Hyderabad a beggar-free city by December 2020, the number of beggars continues to rise every month in the city despite the state government’s effort to stop beggars. Begging menace continues in the city and even the police have turned a blind eye towards it.
Many places like traffic signals, bus stand, railway station, government offices and on busy roads are full of beggars who are causing inconvenience to the commuters.
Earlier in December 2017, the prison department of Telangana lifted the beggars from the city’s streets and shift them to a shelter home called “Anand Ashram,” but still the number of beggars in the city is rising.
