Municipal Administration and Urban Development Minister M Maheedhar Reddy on Tuesday informed that with the conduct of ‘City Summit’ on parallel to COP-11 Conference on Bio-diversity, targets were introduced for all over our country to work on ‘Bio Diversity’.
Addressing a press conference at HICC Media Centre here after completion of City Summit, the minister said that Hyderabad became a brand for Bio diversity with the conduct of this summit. The minister said that the best practices in this regard were spread worldwide and the summit went on smoothly without any mishap or hurdle. He also informed that the actions taken on resolutions made at Nagoya in 2010 were studied during the summit. He also congratulated the coordinated efforts made by GHMC, GOAP and ICLEI for smooth conduct of the summit.
GHMC Commissioner MT Krishna Babu informed that 500 delegates from 100 cities and 49 countries participated in the summit. He said the corporation was happy to have launched the ‘Biodiversity Index’, first of its kind in the country, during the summit. He also informed that GHMC has signed on ‘LAB’ project, on which ICLEI is going to work. The GHMC will be working hard for coming two years, to achieve 60 points in Biodiversity Index, as per the target given by Governor ESL Narasimhan.
Eemani Kumar, the representative of ICLEI, informed that unlike Nagoma, the delegates from all over the worldwide have participated, where as in Nagoma, they have concentrated more on cities of Japan. (INN)
