Hyderabad: Five cities, including Hyderabad in the two Telugu States of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh, were placed under high alert for possible terrorist attacks on the advice of Central security agencies in the wake of reported infiltration of militants from the neighboring Pakistan.
After an abandoned boat was traced and a suspected militant was caught filming Army installations, officials of National Security Agency and Intelligence Bureau gathered inputs that some 10 terrorists from Pakistan having links with Lashkar-e-Toiba and Jaish-e-Mohammed sneaked into the country and moved to Gujarat. The IB authorities seemed to have also gathered information that terrorists have planned to strike on the occasion of Maha Shivrathri or thereafter.
The Gujarat Government was reportedly alerted about the possible terrorist attack leading to tight security arrangements initiated at all important places in the State, including Ahmedabad. Similarly, security was also beefed up in Delhi. Even NSG platoons were rushed to Gujarat besides the leave of all police and security personnel were cancelled. Based on various inputs gathered by the Central security agencies, the Union Home Ministry initiated a nation-wide alert, especially enforcing multi-city security arrangements.
Thus. as part of the multi-city security arrangements, Hyderabad, Warangal, Vijayawada, Tirupati and Visakhapatnam cities were placed under high alert and directed to take all measures to thwart any possible terrorist attack. Accordingly, the police in the two Telugu States have beefed up security and patrolling at all important places like Central establishments like railway stations, airports, telephone exchanges besides public places like shopping malls, cinema theatres and so on. The police also kept a close vigil on all vehicles at crowded places and checking vehicles besides frisking. (NSS).
