Hyderabad: GMR led Hyderabad International Airport is celebrating Christmas and the New Year with a difference.
Enlivening the joyous moment of the year, the airport has gone on to use, recycle and reuse mode. Right from the approach road, the airport greets the passengers and visitors with Christmas bounty.
Glittering reindeers crafted in recycled materials on the rotaries dazzle at the backdrop of mesmerizing strobe lights in the nip of the festive nights.
Departures
The giant 25 foot Santa is blessing Bon Voyage to the passengers at the departure ramp of the domestic terminal. Close to the Santa greets the snowman electrifying the white chill of the North Pole all created out of re-cycled knick-knacks.
The decorations which are placed at the Airport are innovatively made up of reusable PVC pipes, plant and tree branches, rubber tube ABD tyres, gunny bags, bamboo, cane, paper cones, reusable plastic- bringing home the concept of ‘Reduce Reuse and Recycle’.
Check-in Area
Christmas tree which is placed at the domestic Check-in area is made up of reusable PVC pipes and tree branches and is decorated with plastic glitter balls, 1.8*1,8 Ft wooden star and is placed on a wooden platform with re-cycled plastic fencing.
While passengers wait to check-in, they are exploring to check-out the specially designed Selfie Booth to welcome the onset of New Year.
Domestic Arrivals
The artistic installation which stands at the art gallery area has a quirky Christmas tree standing 8ft tall and proud. It is a wobbly stack of black rubber tyres of varied sizes. It is decorated with a sprinkle of cotton snow and a beautiful Christmas wreath. Twinkle McFrossty-the big beautiful snowman made of white painted tyres is keeping warm by wearing a plastic hat and red rubber scarf tucked around his neck.
On Baggage Belts
As the Christmas spirits are brewing high bright-coloured Christmas Trees made of paper cones and saxophone playing Santa welcomes the passengers waiting for their bags at the baggage belt areas.
The Airport village at the arrivals welcomes passengers and visitors by the towering Christmas tree duo, one of which is handcrafted by the cane baskets stuck to a frame of metal rod-shaped in the form of a Christmas tree.
Dashing across the gunny carpet towards the right is a cane sleigh led by Rudolf the reindeer. His sleigh is filled with surprise gifts, teddy bears, candy canes all made of gunny bags. To lift everyone’s spirits is a happy cherry stuffed Santa Claus perched on a garden bench waiting to say Ho Ho Ho to one and all.
To amplify the little joys of Christmas an Augmented Reality Screen is all set for the revellers to shake a leg with Santa Claus. Perhaps, this is the first time in India where an Airport has set up an Augmented Reality screen for everyone to enjoy.
