Hyderabad Airport begins Ebola screening

The RGI Airport at Shamshabad started screening of passengers at the arrival section for the rapidly spreading deadly virus, Ebola.

As per the airport authorities, an announcement is being made at the arrivals section of the airport regarding the symptoms of the Ebola Virus disease.

A health team stationed at the airport will screen the passengers who come up to them with these symptoms. If the presence of this virus is tested positive in any individual, then they will be sent for medication to designated hospitals.

According to the authorities, though the screening process has begun a few days ago, but no passenger has tested positive for this virus.

The screening of Ebola may prove challenging to the screening officials because of the fact that the initial symptoms of Ebola are close to that of flu fever. But in severe cases, the condition may lead to bleeding from eyes, gums and other places.

The screening procedure was initiated following a directive from the Union Health Ministry to take safety measures to prevent the spread of this virus from international flyers.

The local airport authorities are focusing on the travelers from African countries, who mostly take connecting flights from the Middle-East.

The Ebola virus has been responsible for the death of more than 700 individuals in the African countries of Liberia, Sierra Leone, Guinea and Nigeria as an epidemic last month.

This Ebola Virus disease has a fatal outcome at a rate of 90 per cent and the World Health Organisation had also warned that the disease could lead to a global crisis
