Hyderabad: The Gowliguda City Bus Station known as CBS collapsed this morning. However, there were no casualties and no loss of assets as the officials stopped entry of buses into CBS since June 30.
It may be mentioned here that the CBS was constructed during erstwhile Nizam era in 1930 for the maintenance of Aircraft. Later it was made a bus stand in 1951 when the RTC took it over. The first RTC bus depot was also in Gowliguda. In June, 1932, Gowliguda Bus Stand came into being and buses started from Gowliguda Hanger with 30 flat forms and 27 buses. Nizam Road Transport services was launched with 166 employees. The Hanger was confined to local services from 1994.
Some 80,000 commuters get RTC services from CBS and more than 500 bus services will run from CBS with 2,385 trips every day. The RTC launched city bus services from the CBS, which was meant for district bus services since 2006. Since then, it was named as City Bus Station.
The TSRTC officials, keeping safety of commuters in view, have decided to re-construct it after demolishing it as it reached dilapidated condition. As part of it, TSRTC officials stopped running bus services from the CBS for the last one week, RTC in-charge MD Sunil Sharma informed. With the RTC precautionary decision, commuters saved from danger, Sunil Sharma said, adding that they will construct a new Bus Station and bring it to the access of commuters. (NSS)
