Hyd Police Likely to Seek Viqar’s Custody

Hyderabad, July 19: Police are likely to seek custody of arrested “terror operative” and founder of militant outfit Tehreek Galba-e-Islam (TGI) Viqaruddin Ahmed and five of his associates in connection with the killing of two policemen here.

“Yes, we will seek police custody of Viqar and others for further interrogation. A petition will be filed once the process of Test Identification Parade (TIP) of the accused is conducted,” a senior police officer told PTI.

The twenty-nine-year old Viqaruddin Ahmed alias Viqar, who was absconding since December 2008 after allegedly attacking police personnel here in which two policeman were killed and as many injured besides allegedly killing a police constable in Ahmedabad in 2007, was arrested along with five of his associates from here on July 14.

Viqar and his associates Syed Amjad alias Suleman, Zakir, Riaz, Sayeed and Dr Mohd Haneef (who police claim is a quack) are presently under judicial remand and lodged at Cherllapally prison here.

According to sources, the identification parade will be held at Cherllapally prison and Viqar and others will be paraded before witnesses who also include some policemen.

Viqar, as claimed by police, killed policemen to avenge killing of Muslims who were killed in police firing to control the situation erupted soon after the blast in Mecca Masjid here on May 18, 2007.

Earlier, Hyderabad Commissioner of Police A K Khan had said, “The interrogation of Viqar and his associates has to be further carried out. We should see where it leads us.”
