After hundreds of votes and careful deliberation by judges from People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA), Chinky beat nine other finalists to be crowned as the first-place winner of PETA India’s first-ever ‘Cutest Indian Dog Alive’ contest.
Chinky, whose guardian is 27-year-old Hyderabad resident Alokparna Sengupta, edged out hundreds of other lovable community dogs to become a finalist, a release said here today. PETA created the contest to show that the kindest thing that a prospective guardian can do is to adopt a lovable Indian dog from the streets or animal shelters. The second-place winner of the contest was Jack, whose guardian is Amirtham R from Madurai. The third-place winner was Danny, whose guardian is Rohan Agarwal from Lucknow. ‘Chinky proves that adopting a dog from the streets or an animal shelter can fill your life with a joy and love that words can’t express’, said PETA India campaign coordinator Chani Singh. ‘Though Chinky has won our contest, all rescued dogs are winners because they have found loving homes,’ Singh said. Chinky was in a very bad shape suffering from a wound when it was rescued from a street in New Delhi by Sengupta who took her to a veternarian and nursed her back to health. UNI
