A local court has sentenced 19 persons to imprisonment of three days for drunken driving in the city. The court of 3rd Metropolitan Magistrate B Chengalaraya Nayadu yesterday convicted and sentenced the 19 accused after they were caught driving their vehicles in inebriated condition, an official release said today. The Hyderabad Traffic Police had booked 324 cases against the drunk drivers during its drive on March 22 and 23, conducted at various parts of the city. As per the Motor Vehicle Act, a person can be booked for drunk driving if his/her Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) level crosses 30 mg per 100 ml blood. The vehicles of such drunk drivers were detained and those caught in the drive were made to attend the compulsory counselling session and produced before the magistrate’s court yesterday, according to the release. They were fined between Rs 2,000 and Rs 2,100. A total of 2,405 cases have been registered as part of the drive against drunk driving since January 1 till March 23 and a 91 drunk drivers were convicted with imprisonments, the release said. PTI
