Hyderabad: The heavy rain swept the city on early hours of Saturday, leaving chaos for the people on roads. So is the case with Hussain Sagar lake which gushes out its water after every heavy downpour.
The lake swelled up crossing the full tank level at 513.53 feet, leading to a sudden increase in water level by a big margin of over 2 feet, as per a report by the DC.
Officials said that the inflow was at an alarming level of 3,200 Cusecs from the five major drainages at Kukatpally, Malkapur, Picket, Panjagutta, and Begumpet, which bring in water from across 244 square kilometers.
Though the water level dipped to 513.51 feet by the evening on Saturday, it was still above the prescribed limit of 513.41 feet.
Officials from irrigation department of GHMC said that all the major lakes in the city are overflowing. The lakes in Lingampally, Kukatpally, Tirumalgiri, Bala Nagar and Malkajgiri are full. The authorities have put these areas on alert as the lakes have been flowing onto the roads.
They, however, stated that there was no reason to panic as the inflow to Hussain Sagar lake has fallen to 500 Cusecs on Saturday night.
