The Thane city police traced a grocery shop owner Sadafal Yadav (35) who allegedly strangulated his wife Usha Yadav (28) to death, to a village in Siddharth Nagar district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday, the city police said today.
Senior police inspector N S Bangale of the Vartak Nagar police station told PTI that the after the brutal murder of his wife on the night of June 23, the accused allegedly strangulated her to death in his house and fled the city.
On the fateful night, he came home fully drunk, quarrelled with his wife, killed her and hung her body to the ceiling fan, to fake her suicide, the police said.
His brother informed the police that the lady had committed suicide, but after post mortem, a case of murder was booked, since strangulation was revealed as the cause of her death.
On several earlier occasions the victim had been tortured and driven away, but she returned to live with her husband because of her two kids, the police said.
The police were also informed by the two kids Rishabh (7) and Deepika (5) that their father used to kick and punch her, which was corroborated by neighbours, the police said.
On June 25, the police booked the accused under Sections 302, 323 and 498 of the Indian Penal Code.
A team of police officers was dispatched to Uttar Pradesh, which nabbed him in a village.
