Mumbai, August 23: A 28-year-old woman suffered severe burn injuries after her husband threw acid while she was on her way home on Saturday afternoon at Khar. Anita Gaikwad is feared to have lost her vision in the attack.
Doctors at the Bhabha Hospital said that Gaikwad is unable to see at the moment but further treatment is on and it is too early to ascertain if she has lost her vision.
According to the police, Gaikwad, who worked as a compounder at Prabhu clinic in Khar was on her way home at around 1.30pm when her husband Avinash, threw acid at her.
Her colleagues from the clinic immediately splashed water on Gaikwad and took her to the hospital. Avinash was later arrested from his Khar residence.
Police said that the duo were married for the last 10 years but were living separately for the past four years as Avinash was an alcoholic and regularly beat up Gaikwad. He was also unemployed.
Gaikwad began living separately with their three daughters. Recently, she had purchased a flat worth Rs7lakh at Khar Danda. “When Avinash learnt about this, he started demanding money from Gaikwad. He also demanded a share in her flat,” said investigating officer V Phatangare.
Avinash was arrested for attempt to murder and will be produced in court on Sunday.
