New Delhi: A woman was throttled to death after she failed to get a two-wheeler for her husband in dowry.
The incident is reported from Chattisgarh’s village where the husband first thrashed his wife using a stick and later strangulated her to death after the bride’s family failed to meet his demand of a two-wheeler as he asked in dowry. The crime was committed on June 8 in Mungeli district’s Bondara district.
The worse was yet to come as the accused in order to hide his heinous crime doused the wife in petrol and set her ablaze later claiming that she committed suicide.
The police immediately sent the women’s body for post mortem which revealed the accused.
The accused was taken into custody and interrogation confirmed the crime.
He was produced in court and was sent to jail on judicial remand.
This evil practice of demanding dowry still continues in several places in India despite stringent actions, laws implemented in the country.
