Hurting sentiments of Muslims & Christians 2 members slapped with cases

Hyderabad, January 07: Based on the directions given by the Nampally criminal court, a case was registered today against Srikrishna committee members Ravinder Kaur and Abu Saleh Shariff by the Abids police for allegedly hurting the sentiments of Muslims and Christians.

Abids police inspector Siva Kumar said that cases were registered against them under 153 A (Promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and section 418. The petition was filed by Telangana People’s Forum general secretary Mohammed Valiur Rehman on Wednesday in Nampally criminal court alleging that Ravinder Kaur and Abu Saleh Shariff, in an interview with a private news channel on December 30, had allegedly said that Muslims, Christians and women were more interested in their own development rather than in the movement for a separate state. The petitioner said their statement had hurt the sentiments of several Muslims and Christians.

“The statements made by Kaur and Shariff are absolutely wrong. On several occasions, several meetings were organised by Muslims in support of Telangana,” Rehaman told.

The II Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Court directed the Abids police to conduct an inquiry into the issue and submit a report. The court, however, did not set any deadline.
