Hundreds of tanks and waterways in the city have now remained only in the pages of history. Big colonies and localities inhabited on those tanks and waterways, which resulted in scarcity of water and people, are suffering from various diseases. Land grabbers are responsible for all this who have gulped down all these, just for the sake of small worldly benefits.
Once again a waterway is becoming victim of a land grabber’s greed. There is an old canal waterway at Errakunta ahead of Barkas whose survey no is 110. Plotting is being done on the land adjacent to it and the waterway is being shrunk. Debris is brought in lorries to level the waterway.
Local people informed Siasat correspondent, CPM senior leader M Srinivas and MRO Saroor Nagar mandal about the details. MRO Saroor Nagar immediately took action and sent Janardhan Reddy deputy MRO and others to examine the situation. After inspection Janardhan Reddy said that it is clear that it is being conspired to close the old waterway by placing debris on it. He told that if the waterway is closed, it will create a big problem for the people residing in Errakunta, Shaheen Nagar and surrounding areas since when the only waterway is closed the flow of rain water will be diverted towards the colony and the water will enter into the houses.
