Hundreds of students take part in mega job fair in J-K

More than 400 students took part in a two-day job fair held in Srinagar on Thursday with participation from more than 15 companies.

The job fair, organised in Kashmir University by an educational group, drew good response from students in the valley.

More than 100 students were short listed at the fair.

Professor Farooq Khan, an organizer, said that the job fair provided a platform to the Kashmiri youth to choose the sector they wished to join.

“Basically this job fair is a step on our behalf to ensure that the youth from valley get jobs. Our effort is to allow youth to display their talents and get in corporate sector,” said Khan.

Khan also said that the Center for Career Planning and Counseling (CCPC) was established with the sole aim to improve skills of youth from the valley and shape their careers.

The students hailed the initiative saying they had the option to choose a company and the sector in which they wanted to make their career.

The companies like Wipro Technologies, GTL Limited, ICICI Prudential, Bajaj Allianz, Metlife Insurance, HDFC, WNS, Accenture, EXL, Converges, Aspire were among others which took part in the job fair.

The candidates were recruited for various posts in engineering and marketing fields.

The aspirants said that such fairs should be held often as the unemployment rate is alarming in the state.

“Every candidate wants job security. There are two choices when it comes to job security: either go for government jobs or try in job fests. Since there is saturation in government jobs, candidates should prefer these job fests to recruit themselves in the corporate world,” said Younis Ahmad, a job aspirant.

This is the second job fair organised in Srinagar after the first one was held in 2013. The second job fair planned to be held in 2014 was postponed after a devastating flood hit the valley in 2014. (ANI)
