A 60-year-old woman committed suicide after she was allegedly humiliated in a local Panchayat.
The incident happened in the Shamsahbad Police Station limits. The deceased, P Satyamma, who had set herself ablaze on February 23, died at the Osmania General Hospital on Wednesday night. According to police, Satyamma, a widow, was a resident of Kavvaguda. On February 21st, she rebuked a local youth Kiran for roaming around with her 17-year-old son P Nagesh. However, Kiran took the matter to the local Panchayat. During discussions on February 23rd in Panchayat, Satyamma was allegedly humiliated and slapped by another man Anjaiah. Felt humiliated, she resorted to the extreme step after returning home.
A case under 306 R/W 511 and 509 IPC has been registered and further investigations are on, according to Sub-Inspector B Ravinder. (INN)
