Kolkata: Three persons were arrested here today for their alleged involvement in a international human trafficking racket, police said.
Sajid Khan Pathan (40), his wife Parveen (35) and another person Asad Omar (41) were arrested from the city for allegedly trafficking minor girls to countries like the US and Mexico, a senior officer of Kolkata Police said.
Acting on a reliable information of international human trafficking to USA and Mexico, police arrested Sajid and his wife from their Collin Lane residence in Park Street area and Omar from his Taltala home, he said.
Preliminary investigation revealed that Sajid and Parveen, who are having two minor twin daughters, had fabricated identity documents of minor girls to resemble their daughters, the IPS officer said.
“Then they used the passports of their daughters to traffick those girls in batches of two to USA and Mexico,” he said.
Records suggest that they have undertaken three journeys from India to US and Mexico in last one year, the officer said.
“All the more, they faked and prepared forged immigration stamp on their daughters’ passports to certify their daughters’ return to the country. All through this Asad had played the able second fiddle in the odious act of inducing minor girls and felicitating their ‘safe’ journey,” police said.
Around 20 Indian passports along with visas to foreign countries of various people, several mobile phones and a laptop have been recovered from the trio, he said .
They were produced before a city court which remanded them to police custody till July 11.
