Home Minister K J George has said that human trafficking cases in the State there has been raise in the number, and the highest cases have been reported from Bangalore.
In a reply to a question brought up by Y A Narayanswamy (BJP) in the Council, the Home Minister said that as many as 175 cases of women trafficking have been registered.
George, in his statement, said that likewise, during 2012, there were 102 cases recorded and in 2011, 91 cases were filed.
In terms of raids which were conducted state-wide on known cases of human trafficking rings, the statement said as many as 32 raids were conducted in 2013.In 2012, the Anti-Human Trafficking (AHT) sortied 10 locations as opposed to seven in 2011 and two in 2010.
George further said as part of steps taken to control human trafficking and as per the government order of November 26, 2010, five AHT units were opened in Bangalore, Belgaum, Mysore, Hubli-Dharwadand Dakshina Kannada.
The government order issued in January 2013, four more Anti-Human Trafficking units in Gulbarga, Raichur, Davangere and Bijapur were opened.
The number of dowry harassment cases in the capital has been increased. According to the numbers provided by the Home minister, as many as 821 cases were registered in Bangalore during 2013, as opposed to the 633 in 2012 and 605 in 2011.
Previously, Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, during question hour, announced the setting up of an all-women police station in every district across the State. He said the government has already announced 20 new police stations in the State this year, of which 10 will be all-women police stations.
Right now, there are 10 all-women police stations in the State. When insisted him for announcing all the 20 new police stations this year to be all-women police stations by Opposition Leader D V Sadananda Gowda, the Chief Minister
said it was not possible to do so.
“With demand for general police stations, we cannot announce all of them as all-women police stations. We will announce the remaining 10 all-women police stations in the next budget,” Siddaramaiah said.
