Thiruvananthapuram, Aug 18: CPI-M in Kerala today decided to organise a ‘Human Chain’ from Kasargod in North to Thiruvananthapuram in South on October 2 as a mark of protest against the Free Trade Agreement signed by the Union Government with the Association of South East Asian Nations.
A decision in this regard was taken by party State Committee, which contended that once the ‘ASEAN pact comes into force, agriculture sector, especially the cash crops of the state,will be destroyed,’ a party release said here today.
The country’s domestic market would be flooded with commodities from South-Esat Asian nations, the release said.
The Future of major cash crops of state like coconut, rubber, pepper, coffee and tea would be bleak. The fishing sector also would be badly affected due to the pact, the release added.
