Hullabaloo over Madrasa Board proposal

The proposal to form madrasa board in order to modernize religious madaris landed up in controversy. In the meeting of meeting of Standing Committee on Welfare of A.P. Assembly and Council, principal secretary Minority Welfare J Raymond Peter had proposed formation of Madrasa Board in Andhra Pradesh on par with Uttar Pradesh and Bihar under which Science, Mathematics and English will be introduced in religious madrasas.

He also proposed to make Madrasa Board exam equivalent to SSC exam. It is said that the members also agreed the proposal. However Deeni Madaris Board and religious scholars have vehemently opposed Madrasa Board formation. Board leaders have declared it unacceptable.

According to highly placed sources since the proposal has landed up in controversy Standing Committee on Welfare will not include the proposal for Madrasa Board in its final report. Standing committee has to submit its report to the speaker assembly N Manohar on May 24 which he will present in the second round of budget session.
