NEW DELHI: A State Bank Of India account holder from Madhya Pradesh’s Bhind region when discovered cash showing up ‘bafflingly’ in his bank account every month, he thought PM Modi kept his election promise of Rs 15 Lakh.
However, when the truth came out, the man was left heart-broken after it was revealed that Rajesh Sonkar, the manager of SBI branch in Alampur, assigned identical account numbers to two different customers- Hukum Singh (from Rurai village) and Hukum Singh (from Rony village).
One account two holders
In the wake of opening his record, Hukum Singh from Rurai village was searching for work and began storing cash in his SBI account. While the other Hukum Singh from Roni village, discovered money in his bank account each month.
Delighted with the deposit, he began withdrawing the money thinking it was Prime Minister Modi who was doing it.
“Money came and I thought Modiji was giving money so I withdrew it. I didn’t have money and it was a necessity,” he said.
And for the past one year, he withdrew Rs 89,000.
The misunderstanding came to fore last month when the depositor Hukum Singh tried to withdraw money from his account and found that his account had Rs 35,400 in it instead of Rs 1,40,000.
The bank authorities recognized the clerical mistake following the complaint by the depositor Hukum Singh.
However, the man yet to get his money back.
