THANE: Kalyan Crime Branch have arrested a local BJP vice president for allegedly possessing and selling prohibited weapons.
According to media reorts, acting on a tip-off about a huge consignment of arms and weapons, the Kalyan Crime Branch led by Senior Police Inspector Sanju John conducted a raid and recovered the prohibited weapons from the shop of BJP leader Dhananjay Kulkarni, located in suburban Mumbai area of Dombivali.
The police arrested the 49-year-old BJP leader and also seized nearly 108 types of different weapons including guns, choppers, knives, swords, machetes, axes, air rifles and knives worth more than Rs 2 lakh.
Following the arms seizure, the opposition leaders targeted the ruling government and have alleged that the stunning expose is a clear indication that BJP party was planning to resort to religious polarisation by inciting communal riots to divide and win votes.
Kulkarni has been sent on a judicial custody. Police is investigation the case.
