I-Hub in ICRISAT to boost farm productivity: Ministers

Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy and  IT Minister KT Rama Rao today launched Innovation Hub (I-Hub) on the ICRISAT premises here in the presence of ICRISAT Director-General David Berg Winson and other scientists and officials. Innovation Hub is a facility to extend needed guidance to the farming community for innovative cultivation practices using technology and better yield.

Speaking on the occasion, Srinivas Reddy said innovations are key for agricultural development and to increase the income of the farmers. “Ours is agrarian nation as 70 per cent population is involved in farming activity while the United States of America has only one per cent farmers, he said. He also stated that Telangana Government was trying to make agriculture as a festival by providing all facilities and guidance to the farmers at the behest of Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao, who has been implementing several schemes for their welfare.

KT Rama Rao exuded confidence that I-Hub will prove handy by extending necessary advices and guidance to the farmers in the state. In future the state is to reap in better yield and benefits in the field of agriculture. Stating that Telangana feels proud to have ICRISAT facility in its heart and the majority of population is relying on agricultural activity. He said that we are transferring technology to common man and its use in agriculture will help boost production.

After formation of Telangana State, the TRS Government was able to tide over power crisis and supplying 9 hour power to agriculture sector. Right now the government through field level officials creating awareness among farmers on better farm practices through soil tests on time. The government is completing irrigation projects on top priority, KTR stated. He also hoped that the completion of projects will boost agriculture and increase its productivity significantly in future. (NSS)
