New Delhi: After receiving a complaint from Union Ministry of Human Resource Development, Registrar of JNU sought the explanation from the professor, Kamal Mitra Chenoy for the remarks he made on TV in July.
According to the news published in The Telegraph, on Aljazeera channel, Prof. Kamal Mitra Chenoy had criticized PM Modi for not visiting Palestine. Referring to Gujarat riots, he termed BJP “anti-Muslim”.
Reacting to it, Satya Pal Singh, MP of Lok Sabha on 6th July filed a complaint with Parliamentary Affairs Minister, Ananth Kumar. He alleged that professor made anti-India comments.
Later, Parliamentary Affairs Minister forwarded the complaint to Prakash Javadekar, HRD minister. After receiving it, undersecretary sent it to Pramod Kumar, JNU registrar.
When a reminder is received from HRD ministry on 22nd September, Registrar sought an explanation from Prof. Chenoy on the issue.
It is also reported that Prof. Chenoy in his replied defended his rights to express his views.
Reacting on the issue, Nandita Narain, a former FedCUTA president, said that it is an effort to crush dissent.
It may be mentioned that Prof. Chenoy who is currently on an extension in the university, had earlier campaigned against Modi in Varanasi.
