Chandigarh, August 31: State-owned Haryana Power Generation Corporation Ltd (HPGCL) has decided to set up a new super critical thermal power plant of 660 Mega Watt capacity at Yamuna Nagar.
The project will be part of HPGCL’s effort to scale up total power generation capacity to over 6,000 MW in the next four years and would involve capital outlay of Rs 2,700 crore.
“After carrying out detailed designing exercise at (Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power Project) Yamuna Nagar, we found that we can set up another 660 MW of power project here and a decision in this regard has also been taken,” HPGCL, Managing Director, Sanjeev Kaushal told PTI here.
The project is expected to be operational by 2012-13, Kaushal said adding Expression of Interest for setting up this super critical plant would soon be invited from global companies.
At present, Deen Bandhu Chhotu Ram Thermal Power project at Yamuna Nagar is a 600 MW power project.
Also, HPGCL plans to set up a 432 MW gas based project at Fardidabad, which would commence by 2012-13. This project would phase out the old Faridabad thermal power project.
