Shimla: Himachal Governor Acharya Devvrat today urged women to actively participate in agriculture and allied activities to strengthen the farming sector.
Presiding over the 13th Convocation of the CSK Himachal Pradesh Agriculture University at Palampur, he said that women have excelled in all fields and their active participation in agriculture while adapting latest farm techniques would go a long way in strengthening the economy.
Urging the farmers of the state to adopt traditional and organic farming to enhance the quality of their produce, the Governor said that in order to get remunerative returns from organic food, it should be encouraged and popularized.
He asserted that organic food not only leads to healthy living but is also environment friendly.
While expressing concern over excessive use of pesticides and chemical fertilizers, the Governor said that it not only reduces the nutritious value of crops but also affect the fertility of the soil.
Devvrat called urged the agriculture scientists to hold camps across the state to educate farming community about organic and traditional farming. He added that special awareness should be generated for adopting zero-budgeting for improving the existing agriculture practices in the state.
The Governor conferred 212 degrees to the students out of which five were Doctorate, 65 Masters and 142 with Graduate degrees.
