Shimla, August 11: The Himachal Pradesh government has extended the deadline for ban on use of polythene bags and other plastic items in the state from August 15 to October two. A decision to this effect was taken by the state cabinet at its meeting here last night, Chief Secretary Asha Swaroop told PTI here today.
The Prem Kumar Dhumal government had earlier decided to ban use of polythene bags and other plastic items from the Independence Day. The ban would now come into force from October two, the Gandhi Jayanti Day, the Chief Secretary said.
According to some survey reports, the use of polythene bags and other plastic goods are causing large-scale damage to environment of the state, a favourite tourist destination due to its salubrious climate.
