HP doing better in implementing NREGA: minister

Dharamsala, December 16: Himachal Pradesh’s performance in implementing the NREGA is the best among four neighbouring states of Uttarakhand, Haryana, Jammu and Kashmir, a state minister told the assembly today.

While total amount spent under NREGA in rest three states in the present year so far is Rs 344 crore while it is Rs 305 crore alone in Himachal Pradesh, Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Karia Thakur said in reply to a discussion brought under rule 130 by leader of opposition Vidya Stokes.

The minister said the target is to raise the amount to Rs 500 crore by the end of current financial year on March 31, 2010.

NREGA is in force in all 12 districts of the state and special care is bring paid to ensure quality work under it, Thakur said adding a total of 3.
