HP cabinet okays draft anti-ragging bill

Shimla, July 18: In the backdrop of incidents of ragging in educational institutions, the Himachal Pradesh cabinet today approved a draft bill against the menace to be presented in the state assembly in coming monsoon session. A meeting of the state cabinet here presided by chief minister Prem kumar Dhumal approved draft Himachal Pradesh Educational Institutions (Prohibition of Ragging ) Bill, 2009, for presenting in the coming session of monsoon session of the assembly starting on August 3 next.

The bill, when passed would replace the anti-ragging ordiance brought by the state government in the wake of tragic death of Aman Kachroo due to ragging at Dr Rajendra Prasad Government Medical College Tanda in Kangra district in March this year which had sparked a national outrage.
