By looking at the ostentatious weddings performed in the Muslim society, no one will believe that Muslims are the most backward community in the country. There is no doubt that they lag behind other communities in every field of life but when it comes to weddings, they spend lakhs of rupees for sumptuous dinner, stage decorations and other wedding customs; all these by borrowing money on interest. The women of the house persuade their men to spend more than their capacity. The situation has reached such a “dangerous level” where weddings only mean flaunting of one’s wealth.
Such women do not have a least idea that there are people within their relations and neighbourhood who could hardly afford two meals a day. While hundreds of poor girls are crossing the age of marriage in the social context, as their parents can’t afford marriage expenses even for the simple wedding, well-off people leave no chance to have a gala time by performing ostentatious weddings just to flaunt their wealth.
