New Delhi: Sucharita Sen, JNU professor with the university for almost 35 years injured in the mob attack that left many professors including students gravely injured when they came in the front to defend the students expecting the mob will not unleash violence on them.
The injured professor recalls the incident where goon armed with iron rods, lathis charged at them unleashing the violence, horror in the premises.
She said “We thought if professors were present, we will be able to control the situation and professors would not be attacked. But we were proved wrong. One of the first stones hit me”.
When asked if she can recognize people the attackers, she said she can not since they were wearing masks and that she does not believe her students are involved in such inhumanity and violence, since JNU is the epitome of Unity with people coming together from all walks of life.
The whole discussion was going in a peaceful manner in the assembly when the news of masked goons arrived inside the premises.
Armed with iron rods, sticks, the masked goons started raining stones at the faculty who came forward expecting to control the situation with peaceful talks.
When asked about the JNU administration staff, security guards none of them present at the time of violence, the professor told the JNU administration is responsible for not securing, protecting the faculty or students.
When asked if the JNU Vice- Chancellor should step down, the professor said yes, indeed he should take responsibility since the administration has put everyone to mortal danger.
