How Can A Backward Area Contribute High Taxes? TD Asks KCR

TDP senior leader Somireddy Chandramohan Reddy has lashed out at TRS chief K Chandrasekhara Rao for stating that the people of Telangana contributed a major share of tax revenue of the State.

Talking to the media here on Tuesday, Somireddy questioned how the people of Telangana, which according to KCR himself, was very backward, were able to contribute a major share of the tax revenue to the State’s exchequer. He said that if the people of Telangana were contributing a major share of taxes, then the region must be well-developed and not backward as KCR has been stating all these years.

The former minister said this reflected the dual-standards of KCR. He warned that the people of his own region would teach him a befitting lesson in future if he does not stop making illogical and opportunistic statements.
It may be mentioned that KCR had said that while three crore people of 10 Telangana districts contributed 72 percent of revenue, 13 Seemandhra districts with a population of 5.5 crores contributed only 28 percent. He said that even if the revenue from Hyderabad city was not taken into consideration, the contribution of Telangana was more than that of Seemandhra. (NSS)
