Housing schemes’ beneficiaries to get localised services

Housing Minister Uttam Kumar Reddy on Thursday stated that his department was taking all steps to rectify the lapses such as typographical errors and others at the initial stages of admission.

Talking to media persons at the Secretariat, he said that the District Collectors have been given full powers to look into the issue. “There is no need for beneficiaries to come to State headquarters for rectifying mistakes and they can sort out the same at the district level,” he said.

The minister said that the department has relaxed norms in the construction of BPL houses in the 215 sq feet and increased the limit to 500 sq ft. Responding to payment of houses dues to beneficiaries, he said that the beneficiaries have been asked to open accounts in the banks to clear all dues. He said that the delay in payment occurred as beneficiaries have accounts in post offices, which don’t have core banking facility.

Uttam Kumar Reddy also said that the government would also consider the proposal for reducing cost of flats constructed for the middle class in no-demand areas. He said that the government would stand by to 25 percent less than market cost for middle class with no loss and no profit basis to the government. He also said that the government committed to make the state hut-free and sanctioned 58.67 lakh houses under the Indiramma housing scheme.

The minister said that list of beneficiaries of houses completed, under construction and list of ineligible beneficiaries in all panchayats has been made available on the website www.housing.gov.in for public view. He said that Housing Corporation was taking all steps to ensure transparency in the schemes.
