Housing plan for poor soon by GHMC

Somesh Kumar, Commissioner of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) has directed housing department officials to prepare detailed project reports (DPRs) on two-bedroom houses for weaker sections in upcoming projects.

The commissioner on Thursday held a review meeting with officials of the engineering wing on upcoming housing projects in Greater Hyderabad.

All houses that will be constructed now onwards should be of double-bedroom type by maintaining strict adherence to the chief minister’s promise, he said.

As per records there were 1,478 slums under GHMC limits, out of which 680 slums were on government land, 72 on local body land, 502 on private land, 125 on private-occupied land and 12 on the Government of India land including defense, airport and railways.

An additional three slums have come up on mixed ownership land one on endowment land, two on Wakf land and 81 others on other parcels of land.

According to the engineering wing officials, there were three types of housing colonies INSITU Up-gradation (where there are some concrete houses along with huts but without infrastructure), INSITU (in the same location by removing the existing structures) and Relocation (where the slum is in a hazardous location and will be shifted to some safer place).

Kumar directed officers to identify 15 slums to engage in construction of housing colonies on pilot basis and divide the slums based on the type of housing that will be taken up in the slum.

The officials informed that DPRs for Banjara Colony, Ismail Nagar Slum, Circle-3, Circle-4, Jangammet MCH quarters, Circle-4 and Narsimha Basthi (near Nallakunta) Circle-9 were ready, however the design needs to be changed to two-bedroom houses.
