House panel to monitor spending on minorities’ welfare

Hyderabad: The Telangana State Legislature Committee on Welfare of Minorities has decided to supervise the spending on minorities’ welfare besides conducting timely review of implementation of various schemes.

The committee’s first meeting was inaugurated on Friday by Assembly Speaker S Madhusudan Chary. Council chairman Swamy Goud, committee chairman Aamir Shakil, members Syed Altaf Hyder Razvi, Farooq Hussain, Mohammed Saleem and Stephen Ravindra, Agriculture Minister Pocharam Srinivas Reddy, Nizamabad MP K Kavitha, Minorities Welfare Department secretary Syed Omer Jaleel, Urdu Academy director Prof S A Shukoor and senior officials of Wakf Board, Haj Committee and other departments attended.

Addressing the media later, Aamir Shakil said that the implementation of various schemes for minorities welfare were reviewed during the meeting. He said the committee discussed the spending of Rs 1,205 crore allocated for minorities’ welfare for 2016-17.

So far, Rs 480 crore was spent. Other schemes like distribution of loans, scholarships, fee-reimbursement and functioning of Urdu Academy were also discussed. He said that the committee would conduct its next meeting at Bade Pahad Ki Dargah in Nizamabad.
