House disrupted for third day

Hyderabad, February 23: The Legislative Assembly could not transact business on Tuesday also, thanks to the disruptions by the Opposition, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) in particular, that continued unabated.

The slogan-shouting TRS members, who stormed the Speaker’s podium for the third consecutive day, prevented the House from taking up the agenda listed by the Business Advisory Committee of the Assembly.

Repeated appeals by Deputy Speaker Nadendla Manohar and Legislative Affairs Minister D. Sridhar Babu for allowing the House to function went in vain forcing the Chair to repeatedly adjourn the proceedings amid the pandemonium.

Camaraderie

The TRS, TDP and CPI members exhibited camaraderie by insisting that business be set aside and a resolution favouring formation of separate Telangana be adopted.

While the TRS members were stationed near the podium throughout the day, the TDP and CPI members remained on the borders of the well of the House.

Holding aloft placards with slogans on moving a resolution in the Assembly, the TRS members stood as an obstacle between the members and the Chair.

Unrelenting members

The protest continued in the evening session too with the TRS members remaining unrelenting. There was, however, no action forthcoming from the Speaker to bring order.

Senior legislators pointed out several instances in the past when members were suspended for merely rushing into the well of the House and wondered why the Chair showed utmost restraint. Some Congress members, however, view this as an effort to contain embarrassment to the Telangana Congress members.

Any action against the Telangana Rashtra Samiti members could prompt the Telangana TDP members to intensify their protest, leaving the ruling party members in a piquant situation.
