Hottest day of the City

Hyderabad, March 23: The city scorched on Monday with temperature climbing over 41 degrees Celsius. It was the hottest day this season. People were forced to stay indoors to escape the blistering afternoon heat that touched 41.3 degrees Celsius.

The day’s average temperature has been rising since last Thursday.

The city recorded 35.6 degrees Celsius on Thursday, 37.5 on Friday and Saturday, 39.6 on Sunday and 41.3 on Monday.

The average night temperature has also been increasing by one degree Celsius above the normal in last few days, MET officials said.

Wind pattern

“It’s not a sudden change. The temperatures are steadily increasing because of change in the wind pattern coupled with absence of clouds,” explained MET Director M. Sathya Kumar. He said the day’s temperatures were expected to remain high for the next three days.

Shops selling chilled water, soda and buttermilk did brisk business. There is also increase in sale of caps and umbrellas. Doctors have advised intake of fluids and avoiding travel during afternoon. Some of the most common ailments reported in summer are sunstroke, jaundice, dysentery and typhoid. “Frequent complaints of dehydration due to dysentery and vomiting are reported. Loss of fluids from the body is also very dangerous,” doctors said.
