Hostel warden held for sexual harassment

Nellore/Hyderabad, July 9: The warden of the Hostel for Scheduled Tribe Boys at Gudur in Nellore district, KV Ramanaiah, was suspended on Friday for allegedly harassing hostellers sexually.
Nellore district collector B Sridhar, who had conducted an inquiry into the allegations, suspended Ramanaiah and directed superintendent of police Ramana Kumar to arrest him immediately.
The chief minister ordered an inquiry after the media had reported allegations of sexual harassment against Ramanaiah.
According to sources, 45- year-old Ramanaiah has been working as the warden only for the last few months.
On the night of July 4 he allegedly invited the two hostel boys to his room for watching television and tried to sexually harass them while they were watching TV. Frightened and bewildered by the warden’s unusual behaviour, the boys ran out of the warden’s room and informed their parents of the matter. The parents lodged a complaint with the Gudur police.
Ever since a case was registered against Ramanaiah, he has been on the run. Ramanaiah lives in Gudur while his family resides elsewhere in the district.
“A special party was formed to arrest him, Gudur DSP Narayaana Reddy told Express. However, when Express tried to talk to the students, they maintained a stoic silence fearing action from the school authorities.
In a recent incident, the husband of an SC girls hostel matron at Kota was held for alleged sexual harassment.
