Tehran October 03: Unknown gunmen have stormed a police headquarters compound in Iraq’s western province of Anbar, killing at least 13 policemen in the raid, Press TV reports.
Thirteen gunmen wearing military uniforms broke into the police station in al-Baghdadi town in Ramadi, 170 km northwest of the capital Baghdad, on Monday.
The gunmen took 15 senior officials and policemen hostage, a Press TV correspondent reported.
The incident took place during a meeting at the station with the presence of al-Baghdadi town’s mayor.
The attackers blew up some buildings after they seized the station’s police chief, the mayor, and several police officers.
No group has yet claimed responsibility for the blasts or the operation.
Daily bombing attacks, roadside bombs, and shootings have been rampant in Iraq since the US-led invasion of the country in 2003.
