A video clip of a sweeper giving stitches to a patient at Bulandshahr government hospital has created a wave of consternation among the viewers. But it has been told that Sweeper giving stitches is not an uncommon occurrence at the Babu Banarsi Das District hospital in Bulandshahr, Lucknow. Sources say that ward boys and sweepers are often seen administering vaccinations to patients.
Even the Health Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Ahmad Hasan is unmoved. He justified it by saying that too many emergencies at the hospital resulted in attendants doing the job of doctors. But the question arises what were the 23 doctors registered at the hospital were doing at the time.
One video clip shows the Chief Medical Superintendent (CMS) of the hospital, standing by and watching as one of these men treat a patient.
