UP horror: 49 children die at Farrukhabad hospita

Farrukhabad: Days after Gorakhpur tragedy that witnessed over 290 children dying within a span of a month at Baba Raghav Das (BRD) Medical College, terror struck at another hospital in Uttar Pradesh’s Farrukhabad.

Nearly 49 children have died within a month at Ram Manohar Lohia Rajkiya Chikitsalay in Farrukhabad due to alleged shortage of liquid oxygen and medicines supply.

District Magistrate Ravindra Kumar has ordered a probe into the deaths of the children reported between July 21 and August 20.

In his report, the magistrate found that the deaths were due to lack of oxygen supply and negligence on the part of doctors.

A first information report (FIR) has been filed against Chief Medical Officer (CMO) and the hospital doctors.

“A case has been registered against the CMO, the CMS and several doctors on the matter. Further action will be taken as the investigation proceeds,” Farrukhabad Superintendent of Police (SP) Dayanand Mishra told news agency ANI.

Denying all allegations, hospital authorities have claimed that the infants were under weight.

Last month, the death toll of children at Gorakhpur’s BRD Medical College grabbed headlines after more than 70 children, mostly infants, died at the hospital within the span of a week, and another 70 in four days, reportedly due to encephalitis and lack of oxygen.
