Hopeful of getting access to Headley: Pillai

New Delhi, April 30: India today hoped that it will get direct access to Lashkar-e-Taiba operative David Headley, arrested by American authorities in connection with the Mumbai terror attacks.

“We have been assured that Indian investigators would be given direct access to David Headley. This is a significant achievement and should put an end to the doubts expressed in certain quarters,” Home Secretary G K Pillai told reporters here while presenting the monthly report of the ministry.

Pillai did not elaborate further saying that arrival of the Solicitor General (Gopal Subramanium) was awaited.

“We are waiting. The Solicitor General will arrive tonight. The discussion will be held. I will be able to give you further details after the discussion with the team that had gone to the US,” he said.

A two-member team led by Subramanium had visited the US from April 24-27 to discuss modalities of gaining access to Headley, he said.
