Mumbai: Legendary actor Dilip Kumar’s wife Saira Banu is mum on reports of him suffering from a kidney ailment and says she is hopeful that he will recover soon with the prayers of his well-wishers and fans.
“We have to pray he recovers soon. He should be well Inshallah! God willing. The doctors are treating him,” Banu told PTI this morning, when asked about reports that Kumar is suffering from a renal ailment.
The 94-year-old acting legend who has been suffering from age-related problems in recent years, was accompanied by his wife Saira Banu was admitted to Mumbai’s Lilavati hospital late Wednesday.
According to the hospital sources, his condition is no better since his admission due to the kidney issues; creatinine level is rising in his blood.
According to a report in news daily DNA, the Devdas star is now on ventilator support. “His kidney functions have not improved. On the contrary, it has worsened. He is on ventilator. We will be able to give a proper briefing in the morning,” it quoted Dr Jalil Parkar, who is treating Kumar, as saying.
In April last year, he was hospitalised due to fever and nausea.
The thespian known as the ‘Tragedy King’, Kumar has acted in over 65 films in his career and is known for his iconic roles in movies like ‘Devdas ‘(1955), ‘Naya Daur’ (1957), ‘Mughal-e-Azam’ (1960), ‘Ganga Jamuna’ (1961), ‘Kranti’ (1981), and ‘Karma’ (1986).
Last seen on the big screen in ‘Qila’ in 1998, the actor was honoured with the Dadasaheb Phalke Award in 1994 and the Padma Vibhushan in 2015.
