Hooch claims five lives in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad, March 03: In the second hooch tragedy in last five days in the district, at least five persons were killed and over a dozen hospitalised, two of whom lost their eyesight, after consuming spurious liquor, officials said today.

Five persons were killed and 15 others affected since yesterday after consuming spurious liquor in four villages in Simbhawli area in Garh Mukteshwar tehsil, 70 km from here, District Magistrate R Ramesh Kumar said.

A magisterial probe has been ordered into the incident and SHO Simbhawli Om Prakash put under suspension with immediate effect.

55-year-old Phool Dass of village Lisri died first on late Monday night. Two others died in village Nanpur, while one each died in Dhana and Babli villages.

Fifteen affected persons were admitted in different hospitals, the DM said.

Two other persons have also lost their eyesight, hospital sources said.
